Bouvet DXpedition 2026 – 3Y0K, Epilogue by YO2BTW

The Bouvet 2026 DXpedition – 3Y0K – concluded successfully… despite those who did not wish it to succeed, or even made sustained efforts to stop the Argus vessel, despite the skepticism often expressed online, and having navigated the “forks in the road” thrown at them in spiteful comments before and even during the operation.

But… the interest of some changed dramatically only after the team’s arrival on the island on February 28, 2026, when media attention began to stir.

Personally, I had full confidence in this team – in their experience, professionalism, and dedication – and the results fully confirmed it.

Throughout the preparations, and especially during critical moments, I supported their morale, along with the many messages received from all over, both from YO and internationally.

The DXpedition was a major success: over 100,000 QSOs were completed, including approximately 25,000 unique callsigns.

Operations went smoothly with no major incidents. The departure from the island was safe, the helicopter performed flawlessly, the equipment functioned perfectly, and there were no medical issues. The entire operation went according to plan.

The only challenges were, as expected, caused by extreme weather conditions. Strong winds and severe weather damaged tents and antennas, but through sustained effort and professionalism, the team managed to restore everything each time.

We should be grateful for the courage, ambition, and team spirit demonstrated by all members of this DXpedition.

I personally did my best to support YO radio amateurs in making QSOs with 3Y0K. I stayed in daily contact with the Romanian team and tried to assist in operating whenever possible. I am glad that many succeeded and received thanks from them, with some noting that, perhaps, without my support they would not have made any contacts at all.

During the DXpedition, many messages of support and thanks arrived from YO radio amateurs and from around the world. A small selection of these messages is posted on my blog, yo2btw.ro – translated into Romanian and English. They are worth reading, and some are truly impressive, coming from all corners of the world, from W (US) to VK (Australia).

I would like to congratulate all YO radio amateurs who managed to make at least one contact with 3Y0K – a remarkable moment in any amateur radio operator’s life, and one that will be hard to match.

For those who made QSOs with the DXpedition, QSLs can already be ordered online. Additionally, the 26 YO radio amateurs I mentioned on my blog, who supported the expedition through donations, will receive their confirmation QSLs free of charge, as promised by Adrian – KO8SCA.

The DXpedition team left Bouvet Island on Sunday, March 15, 2026 – a day of VICTORIOUS Daring Explorers.

The team is currently on their way to Cape Town (ZS). We wish them all a safe return home.

We thank all members of the 3Y0K team for this wonderful adventure!

With best regards,
Hadrian – YO2BTW
